Ukrainian President awards “Hero of Ukraine” title to a soldier executed by Russian occupiers

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, announced in a video message that he awarded the title of “Hero of Ukraine” to Oleksandr Matsievsky, a serviceman who was shot by the Russian occupiers. Outrage arose after the publication of a video showing the Russian occupiers shooting a Ukrainian prisoner of war who said “Glory to Ukraine!” before his death. It turned out that the deceased could be Oleksandr Matsievskyi, a soldier of the 163rd battalion of the 119th separate TRO brigade of the Chernihiv region, who was called up for military service in March 2022 and went missing at the end of December 2022. Matsievsky’s body was returned home in February this year.
Earlier, the head of the President’s Office and the ombudsman announced revenge for the dead serviceman and sending the video to international partners.
